Hornby R40440 RailRoad Grand Central Rail, Mk3 1st Class Coach, 41206 - Era 10 Junior Railroad

To allow driving in 125mph on UK Victorian Railways, new rolling stock was needed by British Railways. Significant improvements compared to the Mk2 included new secondary air suspension between the bogies and bus body as well as aerodynamic strips on the base. The Mk3 buses are 75 feet (25 m) long which provides much larger capacity than older buses. The Mk3 buses also have disc brakes and wheel slips, which allow for faster deceleration. The first Mk3 buses supplied were used as part of the HST prototype alongside the two Class 41 1972 diesel engines. The Mk3 buses were put into use in 1975 together with Class 43 which formed the iconic InterCity 125 train set. After the HST Mk3 bus variant was introduced, additional Mk3 buses were introduced to West Coast Mainline for use as part of train trains. The Grand Central Railway bought six Class 43 and twenty four Mk3 passenger trolleys from Porterbrook Leasing in 2006. Large modifications were required for the Class 43 motorbikes to make them compatible with the Mk3 trolley. These included switching train supply from three phase to 1000V conventional ETS, mounting bracket connectors, changing central door lock systems and more modifications of couplings and electrical systems. Grand Central launched its new London King's Cross to Sunderland Passenger Service on 18th December 2007. The Mk3 premium bus model features the distinctive Grand Central Black and Orange Striped life with the iconic Grand Central logo embellished in the middle of the stripe. With a thorough corridor connection and tight clutch, this model is suitable to drive with a Class 43 motor and dummy car from the R30375 Grand Central HST Pack.
